Altı telli gitarın standart akordu, kalından inceye doğru E2 – A2 – D3 – G3 – B3 – E4 şeklindedir. Türkçede yaygın ezber cümlesi: "Elma Armut Dalda Gördüm Bir Elma".

Tüm bu frekanslar, uluslararası standart olan A4 = 440 Hz referansına göre hesaplanır. Bazı orkestralar 442 Hz kullansa da, gitar için 440 Hz evrensel kabuldür.

İki ses birbirine yaklaştıkça duyacağınız "dalgalanma" (vuru/beat) yavaşlar; sesler tam eşitlendiğinde dalgalanma kaybolur. Bu dalgalanmayı duymayı öğrenmek, işitme eğitiminin en değerli kazanımlarından biridir.

The standard tuning of a six-string guitar, from lowest to highest, is E2 – A2 – D3 – G3 – B3 – E4. A common English mnemonic: "Eddie Ate Dynamite, Good Bye Eddie".

All these frequencies are calculated from the international standard reference of A4 = 440 Hz. Some orchestras use 442 Hz, but for guitar 440 Hz is the universal convention.

The fastest and most accurate method is an electronic or online tuner. Metrovy's live tuner analyzes the string's frequency in real time through your microphone:

• 1. Open the Tuner tab and allow microphone access.
• 2. Pluck a single open string at medium strength.
• 3. If the needle points left, the pitch is flat — tighten the tuning peg. If it points right, the pitch is sharp — loosen the string.
• 4. When the needle is centered and green, the string is in tune. Repeat for all strings.
• 5. Finally, check every string once more starting from the 6th — string tensions affect each other.

If you have no tuner — or want to train your ear — the classic 5th fret method lets you tune the whole guitar from a single reference note:

• Tune the 6th string to E2 with a reference (tuning fork, piano or a drone tone).
• 6th string, 5th fret = open 5th string (A). Match the two pitches.
• 5th string, 5th fret = open 4th string (D).
• 4th string, 5th fret = open 3rd string (G).
• 3rd string, 4th fret = open 2nd string (B). (Careful: 4th fret only here!)
• 2nd string, 5th fret = open 1st string (E).

As the two pitches get closer, the "wobble" (beating) you hear slows down; when they match exactly, the beating disappears. Learning to hear this beating is one of the most valuable gains of ear training.

Stepping outside standard tuning opens new sounds and playing conveniences:

When using a tuner for alternate tunings, you only need to know the target note — the Metrovy tuner shows the note it detects, so you can follow the table for which note goes on which string.
